EU Funds EUR 2.3 B to Bulgarian Infrastructure

Bulgaria will receive EUR 2.3 B for infrastructure projects in the first two years of accession into the European Union, Bulgarian Finance Minister Milen Velchev has said.
In the presence of students and professors from the Medical University in Pleven, he specified that funds like these would be enough for the construction of 660 km of highways, or 1,816 km of first-class roads, or 1,299 km of railways.
Cumulatively, the EU funds can be used to build 192 water-purifying stations and 260 hard leftovers depot, Minister Velchev added.
A financial package of some EUR 15.4 B in commitments and EUR 9 B in actual payments has been allotted for Romania and Bulgaria in the first three years of their EU accession, the period 2007-2010. |
